It all begins with a belief about self.

EMDR therapy was modeled off of how our brains naturally process information from our day and integrate the memories, lessons learned, and emotions into the larger picture of what makes you, you. If you have seen Inside Out 2, think of the core memories and how they are stored. Sometimes challenging experiences, especially when we were kids, get stored in ways that get stuck. These often create unhelpful (and likely untrue) beliefs about self. EMDR can help target the unhelpful beliefs and core memories that got stuck and through left and right movements, similar to REM sleep, move the memories through the system as they should have initially.
